How We Rank
Every buying guide should tell you how its picks were chosen. Here is exactly how ours are — and, just as importantly, what they are not.
What our rankings are based on
- Aggregated owner feedback. We look at how large numbers of real owners rate and describe a product over time — what holds up, what fails, and for which dogs.
- Published specifications. Materials, dimensions, weight and load limits, foam density, safety standards and certifications — read from the actual spec sheets, not the marketing copy.
- Fit for a use case. The best pick for a strong puller, a senior dog, or a chewer is rarely the same product, so we rank for who a product is actually right for.
- Track record. A long, consistent history of satisfied owners counts for more than a brand-new listing with little to go on.
What our rankings are NOT
- Not first-hand lab testing. We do not test every product in a lab, and we never pretend we did. Where a pick is based on research and owner consensus rather than hands-on use, we say so on the guide.
- Not pay-for-placement. No brand can buy a ranking, a badge, or a spot on a list. Rankings are editorial.
- Not driven by commission. We earn a commission when you buy through our links (see our Affiliate Disclosure), but that never changes the order of a list. A cheaper pick often ranks above a pricier one.
Prices
Prices shown come directly from Amazon and are stamped with the time they were checked. Because prices change constantly, the price on Amazon at checkout is always the one that applies.
When we get it wrong
If you think a ranking is off or a fact is wrong, tell us — see our Corrections & Editorial Policy. We would rather fix it than defend it.
